Yes, GST applies to both the fees. According to the recent changes in the indirect taxes across the entire country, all the coaching institutes have to be extra careful. Whether it is a coaching class, tution class or training institute, if it’s making a revenue of more than 20 lakhs per annum, then they are liable to pay the GST and implement GST in their institutes. Some institute has its company-owned centres across in multiple states. In such cases, they need to register themselves for every state GST separately. Training institute and coaching class will be getting a different GST number for every state. GST can be exempted only for those educational institutes or coaching centres that satisfy the following condition where education is a part of the curriculum for obtaining a qualification, which is recognised by any law. IELTS exam is not part of any curriculum and passing IELTS exam does not give you any qualification. Therefore, coaching for IELTS and IELTS exam fee is leviable under GST. read less
