There are different Guitars for Different purposes. Stratocaster Style body Offers you single coil pickups and the tone of the guitar is thin which give us more clarity but less of sustain on the guitar as compared to les pauls style body. On the other hand, les paul style guitars are thick in size and are mostlyequipped with humbuckers (double coil) which gives you more sustain and warmer tones and little less clarity. Both are very capable guitars for varied purposes. 2.One more thing, why people have more than one guitar is for recording purposes generally. Recording the same guitar part on the same guitar gets your sound very clustered in the frequency range, so people use different guitars for recording for seperation in the mix.
