It would be difficult to name just one so I'll name a few that I feel are highly underrated guitarists in the rock genre. Victor Smolski (member of the German band Rage) Robbie Blunt (check out the song 'Nig Log' by Robert Plant) Nick McCabe (The Verve)

Can I play a guitar without learning chords?
You can start with simple strumming... But you'll have to learn chords .. start with the easy ones like A-minor, c-major etc... They are not difficult... Everything needs practice,, so does guitar playing.
