Totally OK. Steve Cropper, a legendary 60’s guitarist, has huge hands but plays guitars with necks that are mighty small. Some metal guitarists play with shorter-scale guitar necks to make it easier to do reaches to play arpeggios and such. Play a guitar that fits your body, first. If you’re not a big person, don’t get a big guitar. It looks kind of silly. After you get some skills, then you can start thinking about how different guitars might suit your purposes. Sometimes I like a great big Fender Jazzmaster. Sometimes I play a Japanese guitar that has a really skinny neck. Sometimes I play a 5-string bass with an enormous neck. It can be a little easier when learning guitar if there’s room for your fingers, but not so much room that it’s hard to make a barre chord. Check that out when you’re thinking about bigger guitars. read less
