However, when starting to learn guitar, beginners typically focus on mastering a set of foundational chords, such as major, minor, and dominant seventh chords, which are commonly used in a wide range of songs. In standard tuning (EADGBE), beginners might start with basic open chords such as: a) Major chords: E, A, D, G, C b) Minor chords: Em, Am, Dm c) Dominant seventh chords: E7, A7, D7, G7 As a player progress, he/she will encounter various chord shapes and voicings across the fretboard, including barre chords, power chords, extended chords, and more advanced voicings. Additionally, alternative tunings can unlock even more chord possibilities. Overall, the number of chords you can play on the guitar is limited only by your imagination, creativity, and willingness to explore different chord shapes and voicings. read less
