The GRE costs $195, or roughly Rs. 12000. Why is the cost so high? Is there a way to avoid such high fees? What schools do not require the GRE?

Most of the internationa entrance examinations cost around this much. You can get to most of the colleges in the UK and Ireland where only IELTS is required. IELTS too costs around this much. If you take GRE, taking IELTS or TOEFL along with is mandatory, mainly for getting a Visa.
