Hi. I wrote my GRE while studying Btech , so I guess I can answer your question. Usually, third year in Btech is a hectic year. Advanced course work, assignments, and maybe even the start of your projects. I would suggest studying for the GRE during the holidays (either christmas or summer holidays) and writing it immediately after the holidays. you will need about two months of solid preparation , so I would suggest summer holidays.
