Why doesn't Sangeet Natak Akademinot recognize Chhau dance as a classic form of dance?

Chhau has 3 styles (Purulia, Mayurbhanj, Seraikella) and all the 3 styles have been recognised as a classical dance by the Ministry Of Culture. Chhau has 3 styles (Purulia, Mayurbhanj, Seraikella) and all the 3 styles have been recognised as a classical dance by the Ministry Of Culture. The real recognition for any dance to be a classical dance comes from the Sangeet Natak Academy(SNA). So Chhau had not been recognised by the SNA as a classical art form. Other dances apart from Chhau that have been recognised as Classical by the Ministry of Culture and not by the SNA are Ghoomar, Thang tha, Gaurdiya Nritya. read less
