Chhau has 3 styles (Purulia, Mayurbhanj, Seraikella) and all the 3 styles have been recognised as a classical dance by the Ministry Of Culture.
The real recognition for any dance to be a classical dance comes from the Sangeet Natak Academy(SNA). So Chhau had not been recognised by the SNA as a classical art form.
Other dances apart from Chhau that have been recognised as Classical by the Ministry of Culture and not by the SNA are Ghoomar, Thang tha, Gaurdiya Nritya.
