Software failures can be easily recoverable by scanning the entire hard-disk by block by block. Its time consuming process & can be done with the help of software's. On the other hand if there is a hardware level disk failure. Then you need to get the help of technician if it is at minor level Otherwise In INDIA there is one or two research labs which can help you to recover your data from Disk. But with no Surety. My Advice for anyone who is working on important data must implement at least RAID-1 if you are on very tight budget. read less

1. Remove the disk and connect to another system:- If the hard disk does contain important data, you should shut down the machine and remove the failed hard disk. Then connect the failed hard disk to another system as a slave drive. 2. Make a backup of the failed hard disk:-If you move the failed hard disk to another computer and the hard disk still seems corrupt, the first thing you should do is make a backup of the failed hard disk. While it's true that the majority of the files on the disk may be corrupt, there is a good chance that at least some of the files are still valid. You don't want to risk losing even more files than you already have, so back up the disk before the corruption spreads and before you attempt any sort of recovery. 3. Try to recover the data:- Once you have backed up the bad hard disk, the next step is to try to recover the data. I personally like using Norton Utilities for data recovery, but there are a lot of data recovery programs that are just as good. read less
