A good towel is woven out of cotton, which acts as a porous medium. Whenever a liquid gets in touch withthe towel, due to adhesion liquid tries to stick with the towel and I believe the small gaps between small cotton string helps the liquid to get sucked by capillary action. Thus the water from your body gets transferred to the towel. By the way, the dampness of the towel and your body acts as the temperature of two different objects. That'swhy a dry towel (low temperature) helps you to get dry from the wet body (high temperature). In other words, when the gaps of the porous medium of the towel surface get filled with water, it canabsorb no more from your body. read less
