A trolley of mass 20 kg rests on a horizontal surface. A massless string tied to the trolley passes over a frictionless pulley and a load of 5 kg is suspended from other end of string. If coefficient of kinetic friction between trolley and surface is 0.1, find the acceleration of trolley and tension in the string. (Take, g =10 ms-2)

Net force experience by 5kg block is

5g-T=5a-------(1)

Net force experience by 20kg trolly in horizontal direction is

T-fr=20a-------(2)

Since there is not any driving force in vertical direction acting on trolly ,trolly is in vertical equilibrium.

Normal force,N in upward direction must be equal to gravitational force,20g in downward direction

N=20g

Friction force,fr=uN,where u is kinectic friction

Fr=0.1*20g---(3)

From eq 1,2and 3

Solve for a,a=3g/25=1.2m/s2
