in the context of refraction, the apparent position refers to the location of an object as observed by an observer, taking into account the bending of light rays due to refraction through different mediums. It's the position where the object appears to be. On the other hand, the actual position refers to the true or real location of the object, unaffected by the refraction of light. This is where the object physically exists, independent of any optical effects caused by the bending of light rays. Refraction causes the apparent position to differ from the actual position due to the bending of light as it travels from one medium to another, like air to water or air to glass. read less

Stop when the coin just disappears from your sight. -Ask a friend to pour water gently into the bowl without disturbing the coin. -Keep looking for the coin from your position. -Does the coin becomes visible again from your position? How could this happen? ---Explanation: Raised position of coin is apparent position (means seen by an observer) and actual position is its original position. read less
