Both are important but in my view you will learn very quick by TV but should have basic knowledge of that language.
But if you will read a book of any language you would have much time to practice you can take the help of dictionary while reading book but not at the time of watching TV.

This is an excellent question. lets start with the world's 2nd most-spoken language, English. people have a bad concept about the fact that American English is more stylish than British English. But if you read the origin of Celtic And Saxony languages, English was very different from the modern-day genre. People watch Hollywood and get addicted to words like 'wanna','gonna' without knowing the basic root of that word, let alone making a proper sentence. But to really learn a proper language, you don't need to simply read books or watch TV. One thing that you should constantly practice is speaking to yourself and your friends in the same possible style and accent in a different language every single moment. But if you are speaking French with an Australian, it wont help. only the originals know their own language better.
Regardless of your Origin, practice alone will change your accent automatically. Thank you. Here is an attachment for your better understanding. «less

Simplifies Chinese is required in mainland China, whereas other Chinese speaking countries like Taiwan, areas like Hong Kong, Macau use traditional Chinese. Your learning of writing style would depend on your purpose of learning Chinese language first.

Han You Chinese replied | 11/09/2016

In present day scenario people mostly use simplified Characters!! however for the purpose of research literature traditional characters are more functional.... though most natives know both .... Traditional or Simplified Character use is also region specific !!

Chinese characters are complex to understand at the beginners level. Being a trainer myself, I would recommend you to learn from a rightful source. Characters are to be explained with proper strokes and their correct orders, otherwise they are wrong.

Hi Yusufali,

Chinese does not have the same concept of "words" and "word boundaries" as other languages. What Chinese perceive as "inseparable words" are short entities. Single or two syllable words.

Then there are "expression" names of entities and complex concepts. They can be pretty long, but act more like descriptive sentences, in particular in written language.

So, we don't have the " longest" word in China, because all our characters are individual.

Hi Neha,

Mandarin Chinese is spoken by more than 1 billion people, making it the most widely spoken language in the world. It is the official language of Mainland China and Taiwan, and one of the official languages of Singapore and the United Nations.

Mandarin is also spoken in many of the Overseas Chinese communities throughout the world. There are an estimated 40 million Overseas Chinese, mostly in Asian countries (about 30 million), but also in the Americas (6 million), Europe (2 million), Oceania (1 million) and Africa (100,000).

Despite being the official language of China, Mandarin Chinese is not the only language spoken there. Most Chinese people learn Mandarin at school, but may use a different language or dialect for everyday communication. Mandarin is most widely spoken in northern and southwestern China. The most common language in Hong Kong and Macau is Cantonese.

Similarly, Mandarin is not the only language of Taiwan. Again, most Taiwanese people can speak and understand Mandarin, but may be more comfortable with other languages such as Taiwanese and Hakka.
