A group of students asked to describe a cup of coffee, for example, initially tried shaping themselves in the form of a glass. Going back to it again, they realized the idea was conveyed more subtly and easily by simply miming holding a hot cup, taking a sip, and placing it on an imaginary table.The exercises in class encourage students to think of themselves as artists by being open and transparent to the world around them. This is achieved by first breaking the often-imperceptible walls people have created within themselves. In one such exercise, the teacher steps out of the class and the students are asked to make as much noise as they can. Their aim must be to scream, shout, yell, laugh, and stomp around so loud it could bring the roof down! People are always expected to be quiet and maintain a certain amount of decorum. This exercise helps them breaks those expectations and allows them to be free.
