The nationwide civil service exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to Indian Administration Service , Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Revenue Service. The exam is conducted in two phases - the preliminary exam, consisting of two objective type papers (General Studies and Aptitude test), and the main exam , consists of nine papers of conventional essay type followed by the personality test through personal interview. The entire process from application to examination and the final selection takes a period of around 1 year. The eligibility criteria is -graduation in any discipline with minimum 50% in aggregate and age limit is 31 years for general category for applicants whereas for applicants belonging to SC/SC/OBC , the age limit is between 35 to 37 years and Indian citizenship. The benefit of being part of the government service is that along with being successful for one's self and family , civil servant is also presented with an official platform to better the lives of many others.
