Do we have to be good in drawing to learn animation

Drawing is base. The more strong base, more strong building. 2D animation require purely traditional drawing skill. You can use softwares for animation, but it has their own limitation. No software can give you 100% 2D animation.

Good Morning , To a extend it will help you if you are good in freehand drawing . But it is not a completion . There are tools in Flash , Toon Boon etc where you can take a Drawing from Corel / Illustrator and use that file or trace to animate it further . Regards Compufield Computer Institute

It not necessary but it is good to have Drawing skills for animation. We all love to see Tom & Jerry is classical 2D Animation.

If you are doing cartooning then yes you need to be a pro at character sketches and learning human poses to get the best result. But in todays world most of the job is done through puppet animation. Thanks to AfterEffects as things have changed not!!

But if you're aiming for the technical part of animation more than the creative part, then you need to understand animation software: keyframes, frame rate, layers, symbols, tweens, etc. If you do know how to draw, and draw well, it would be a great advantage, of course. But it's not entirely necessary. If you teach yourself how to trace, there are plenty of shortcuts you can use. read less
