Hey Manisha, First of all please let as know what type of exam you are interested, Means UPSC civil engineering related like SSC-JE or other exam like clerical, income tax officer etc.

NCERT books you join in coaching school. without completing don't join. all coaching school will teach from 40% to above. from 0% to 40% you have to learn from NCERT books.

Above 20 subjects are there for optional subject u can take anything My personal suggestion is don't take ur major paper for Upsc optional Bcz we have to know all the subject so try another new -
