It varies from individual to individual. Generally, people prepare for one entire year preparation before their first prelims exam. Few people even prepared just (7-8) months. But one thing you need to keep in mind about the exam is (3 stages of exam and announcement of final result ) this process takes around (10-11 months). So approximately you have to spend 1.5-2 years for the whole process (preparation+exam)to complete. I hope this helps you.Thanks and Regards! read less

It will give you a scope of linkage and retaining some of the facts 3)You can prepare notes of NCERTs which will come handy when you start you actual preparations. 4) Go through syllabus of upsc thoroughly, previous year paper of at least 5 years to know the pattern and decide what to study or not. 5) Basic books which you cab study is laxmikant for polity, Sriram Ias for economics, Shankar for environment etc. All the best!! read less

what are the basic time preparation for ias ??
It depends on the schedule you are comfortable with. On an average 8 hours daily for 6 months can help you befriend with the subjects concerned. A good mentor is also required throughout.
