Subjects for UPSC Examination As an experienced tutor registered on UrbanPro.com, I understand the importance of choosing the right subjects for the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) examination. UPSC conducts various competitive exams, including the Civil Services Examination (CSE), where candidates can select optional subjects based on their interests and strengths. Here's a structured guide on the subjects you can choose for the UPSC exam: 1. Civil Services Examination (CSE): In the CSE, candidates need to choose one optional subject from the given list of subjects. The optional subject consists of two papers, Paper I and Paper II. The list of optional subjects includes a wide range of disciplines, and candidates can opt for subjects they are comfortable with. Some popular optional subjects for the UPSC CSE include History, Geography, Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Anthropology, and many others. Candidates can choose their optional subjects based on their educational background, interest, and the availability of study materials and guidance. 2. Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination: Similar to the CSE, candidates appearing for the IFS examination can select one optional subject. 3. Engineering Services Examination (ESE): ESE has specific engineering disciplines as optional subjects, and candidates need to choose one related to their qualifications. These include subjects like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. 4. Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination: The CDS examination does not have optional subjects in the same way as the CSE. However, candidates can choose their preferred branch or academy, such as the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers' Training Academy. 5. National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) Examination: NDA and NA exams focus on subjects like Mathematics, General Ability, and English. 6. Combined Medical Services (CMS) Examination: The CMS examination primarily tests candidates in medical-related subjects. 7. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Examination: CAPF examinations are more focused on general studies and aptitude tests, with no optional subjects. 8. Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination: For IES and ISS examinations, candidates choose subjects related to economics and statistics, respectively. 9. Geologists' Examination: Geologists' examination includes subjects like Geology, Hydrogeology, and Geophysics. 10. Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination: This examination covers subjects like Geology, Geophysics, Chemistry, and Hydrogeology. These are some of the subjects you can choose for various UPSC examinations. The choice of subjects depends on the specific examination, your educational background, and your interests. It's essential to select subjects that align with your strengths and knowledge, and it's advisable to seek guidance from experienced UPSC exam coaching tutors and coaching institutes listed on UrbanPro.com for subject selection and exam preparation. read less
