I think we should look at this from a practical perspective. Since it is the most widely spoken language, English should be promoted more and more for homogeneity and making life easier for people across the globe. Learning English doesn't mean forsaking your regional culture or language, it simply means finding a common tongue to communicate with people from different parts of the world. The word 'Anglicization' sounds political and should be avoided. Instead, the benefits of learning a universal language should be enjoyed. read less

It's quite essential that when the language English is accepted as universal language then surely we got encourage people to learn at least to fill the gap instead of the a vacuumed atmosphere...this helps a lot in globalisation..

However on the other hand speaker of second language have grown in good ratio and proportion thus catering the needs of day-to-day language usages. I couldn't interact with my classmates in English during my Professional College days. Many of them were from reputed English Medium schools. Once I met one of such Silver tongued English Speaking classmates while travelling by a day train down to South.Our conversation was bi-lingual,me inevitably sticking to Tamil and he with his gift-of-the-gab English,that too in American accent.The eight hour journey went on hilariously and co-passengers were perplexed but pitied me for my inability to deliver even one word of English.He alighted at one of en route stations where his father had come to collect him. To our surprise his illiterate father started enquiring about his journey etc, in local Tamil and my friend replying in fluent Tamil.
