Before you learn any other language, you need to master your mother tongue. Next, love the language that you wish to learn. You do not have to learn one language at the expense of other. You can learn any number of languages once you master your mother tongue. Greater exposure helps you in learning.

When ever there is an auxiliary verb in front of the action verb , you can be reassured its a verb, ex I am, he is , they are, he will be, I was, we were, if its a noun you wouldnt have any of these aux verbs, if its an adj you would have a noun following it.ex understanding parents, caring father.

If you want to understand in simple language then we can say that, when the - ing form of verb is used as a noun is call gerund . So it is also called gerundial noun . For example, "he is walking on the road". And another one is, " walking is good for our health" . So second sentence walking has been used as a noun or as a gerundial noun.

Those are the much needed learning curves, experience is the best teacher. When you fall down, pick yourself up along with the lesson learned, brush the wounds off and move forward. Good luck!
