This is because in India, men were only allowed to work and study and no attention was paid to the women as they made them work as a customer of kitchen only so those ideas are still caried out in some less developed areas of our country thus women are less educated than men in India.

Same conditions prevailed in Europe where too Progressive People and Reformists brought in Education for women. read less

Parents are afraid to send their girl child to school & college because of things happen to them outside in our society. The Passing rate of the woman is more than men whether it is School level or college level. Our society needs awareness about women education, especially in rural areas. If we protect them and guide them in the proper direction, The day where this question will be changed into "Why are men are less educated than women?" is not far away, soon it will come. read less

To get the Answer. Firstly, you should get some information about history. India is a country a great culture, A culture which pays too much respect to Women, infact they are treated as goddess. But during the passage of time due to Politics, Personal Gains and foreign Invasions this glory gradually faded away. And Women soon started loosing their status in society. As a result, gradually they were just confined to Homes doing Household works, etc. Thus got away from outside world and in turn "EDUCATION" But, now-a-days times are changing. Women are proving their mettle in every sphere of life such as Education, Research, Films, Sports, etc. And even Govt. has now started promoting their well being under "Beti Bachao beti padhao Yojana"..
