Was not able to get into law school as he was rejected 1833: He borrowed money from his friend to start business, again failed 1834: He ran for state legisture again. NOW HE WON However destiny had another plans for him . 1835: His fiancee passed away 1836: he suffered a nervous breakdown 1836: he sought to become speaker of the state legislature. Defeated again 1840: He sought to become elector . Defeated 1843: He ran for Congress. He lost 1846: He ran for Congress again. HE WON . 1848: He ran for re-election to Congress. He lost 1849: He applied for the position of land officer in his home state . He didn't get the job 1850: HIs son dies ( from 2nd marriage) 1854: He ran for the Senate of the United states. He lost 1856: Not able to get through vice presidential nomination because he got less than 100.votes 1858: He ran for the senate again. Lost again 1860: ABRAHAM LINCOLN IS ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Despite his setbacks Lincoln never lost sight of the belief that he could make a positive difference in the world . He had the SELF CONFIDENCE in his abilities and persevered though obstacles and became the PRESIDENT of United states. THIS IS SELF CONFIDENCE. read less
