The 2nd sutra describes the purpose of the yoga practice, saying “Yogas Chitta Vritti Nirodhah”, which means “Yoga is stilling the fluctuations of the mind”, or translated as Chitta: mind, consciousness. Vritti: waves, fluctuations. Nirodhah: to control, to quiet.
