Let age of P and Q be 5x and 7x respectively. Q's current age= 7x P's age after 6 years= 5x+6
Given that: (7x) - (5x+6) = 2 ...........(1)
Solving equation (1),
we get: 2x-6 = 2 2x = 8 x = 4
Hence, P's present age = 5x = 5*4 = 20
Q's present age = 7x = 7*4 = 28
Hence, total of P's and Q's present age = 20+28 =48 years
