A lot depends on the kind of music you you want to learn. If your aim is to be a pro 'classical singer' you must learn Hindustani or Karnatic classical 'only' and refrain yourself from light music (at least for the first few years). But if you also intended to do light music (like songs from films, albums and ghazals etc.) I would rather suggest you to learn Hindustani classical and and thumri, ghazal, bhajan along with the same. Your Guru should also give you adequate "voice training" to help your voice grow flexible and stronger in order to attempt and sing songs from various genres. You may ring me up if you are located in East or North Bangalore. read less
