The difference starts with the tuning , Carnatic music uses a static harmony called shruthi and western music uses a twelve note tuning where you can change keys .

western music u wil have notations r symbols. The tune which wil come out of it wil be different compared to carnatic example metal heavy metal rock... carnatic means u eil have measures n thalas like triputa thala aadi thala etc.. example: sindhu bhairavi..shivaranjini raagam etc
