The chemical bond formed by sharing of electron pairs is known as a covalent bond. If there is sharing of one, two, or three electron pairs, then the resulting covalent bond will be a single, double, and triple bond, respectively.
Carbon has four valence electron, and hence, it will share its electrons to form a covalent bond.
