Learning theory is important on any instrument. It's just easier to understand it using the keyboard as a basis. The keyboard is a map of the relationships of the notes. It's also possible to play complete chords and see how they work.

How many chords are there in keyboard. How much time will it typically take to pick up speed?
Your question itself is not correct. A chord is when 2 or more keys are pressed on the keyboard. A triad is a chord when the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes of a scale are played together. e.g if C,E & G keys are pressed together the C triad (chord) played.
