It is one of the useful techniques to practice. With this technique, initially the candidate can start with words then can move to sentences. With this the test taker can answer accurately without spelling errors. It improves listening skills as well.

UK Graduate (Have fun while learning English)

It can help you till an extent since it depends on what you are listening to. The dictation should be rich in content and vocabulary relevant to IELTS. That way you could get more practice. Listening to random topics will help but it will take longer to improve.

For writing, dictation can help you in learning better vocabulary and sentence structure, however, it should not be made a habit. For listening, it does not help. Instead, one must watch English movies with subtitles.

Hello Aravind, Yes. Dictation will help you to improve your listening and writing skills. At first start with simple words, then tough words, afterwards practice sentences. Wish you all the best.
