Both IELTS and TOEFL test the same language skills listening, speaking, reading and writing. TOEFL is a computer based test and IELTS is a paper based test. Main difference in preparation would be to practice according to the different patterns of the test. For example, IELTS listening section may have question types like labelling a map or diagram etc which are not used in TOEFL. Working on a computer (typing, scrolling, speaking into a microphone etc) in TOEFL versus working on paper for reading and writing and then talking to an examiner one on one in Speaking section of IELTS is a considerable aspect that decides the way you practice. read less

The main difference between IELTS and TOEFL is that TOEFL is entirely computer-based and there is no human interaction, whereas in IELTS the test taker has to give an interview and also take notes during a conversation.
