For IELTS academic reading, you must continuously work on vocabulary. Learn several synonyms, phrasal verbs and do a lot of practice to understand your weak areas. Following things can be kept in mind while preparing for the exam-

1. Always keep the time limit in mind. Each question is one mark, so don't get stuck on a single question.
2. While attempting to match the headings, remember, the answer is generally in the first or last part. Don't waste your time rereading the whole paragraph.
3. While reading the passage for the first time underline all keywords, dates, names, and other such relevant details.
4. Don't answer for. Your knowledge but the answer for. What is given in the passage?
Last but not least, the more you practice, the better you will be able to understand and improve your weak areas. Learning and enhancing vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms and collocations play a considerable role in helping you get your desired score.

IELTS is a kind of an exam that you cannot clear just by reading one day or one week before. You'll need constant preparation, a lot of dedication and effort to get the desired band score in reading or any other section in IELTS. There are some ways in which you can improve your reading skills. They are:

1. Usually, the passages for reading tests are taken from Magazines like Nation Geographic or the Economist. If you're not already familiar with such reading styles, then you'll need to start practising reading such articles every day.

2. Focus on reading and understanding the text first, then you can answer the questions quickly and clearly.

3. Learn to skim through the paragraph so that you pick up only the important stuff. You don't have to pronounce the problematic terms and waste time.

4. Most of the time, the main idea of the text or the paragraph is located towards the end of the paragraph. So, you need to keep an eye and pay attention to details.

5. Do not waste time on one single question. If you are not able to answer that, move on to the next one. You can deal with that one later. Do practice of giving in only 20 minutes to this section.
