How to plan your speaking cue card?

It's effortless to plan a cue card by following simple steps.

Choose your topic

What words or expressions could you use to describe that topic? For instance, the text says to "Describe a place you once visited." So, what words would you choose to express your feelings and explain the view of that place?

It can be challenging to describe something for 2 minutes. That is why planning your answer is essential.

Planning your talk:

How to plan your short talk?

  • One approach is to make a mind map.
  • Brainstorm 3-6 key headings
  • use the prompts to help if needed
  • For example, Answer 4 w's first as in Where, when who and why
  • Then expand your answer by elaborating your idea of answering "What". For Instance, What did you do there? What did you eat? What amenities you enjoyed and last but not least, what would you recommend doing over there?
  • Try to speak for 20 seconds about each heading.
  • Add details and use linking expressions such as Moreover, adding to this, apart from that and so on.
