First of all. Ten months is actually a very massive amount of time, and it is no doubt that you would be dedicated for the whole ten months period and prepare for the exam. So three months before the exam is a great time to start preparing. Before that, it is to be advised that you should remove the aspect of the assumption that is "IELTS is a tough exam to crack" The exam is half of the proficiency in English and 25% is all about time management and the rest is the tricks. Tips are like; one should not use complicated words or tenses to break away from the Band 7 wall. You have to really play safe in writing. Don’t write a sentence you are not sure is grammatically correct. You never realize, but you unknowingly commit “grammatical mistakes” and write “spoken English”. It is all about the confidence you need to get used to English. Preparing at least 2 hours daily and hearing a lot of English radio and reading a lot of English paper, speaking only in English and writing regularly in English are some of the tips that would be helpful for any IELTS aspirant. read less
