IELTS test is structured in a way which makes it feasible for non-native speakers to test their English language abilities without much hassle. IELTS assesses your proficiency in the English language in four skills, i.e., listening, reading, writing, and speaking. While applying for work permits, IELTS is generally not requested. While English language proficiency is mandatory, having a French proficiency is not compulsory. The maximum Canadian population is English speaking. Now, although the Canada Work Permit does not need IELTS, the employer who has offered the job to the candidate may additionally ask him/her for the IELTS score. The only requirements are a job offer from the company and sponsorship, which is usually provided by your employer. In case they request, then you need to give the IELTS. But it is not possible to get PR in Canada without IELTS. It is not possible to get admission to any Canadian University or educational institution without an IELTS score. Even people who are from the US, UK, Australia, who study in English medium also need IELTS scores. As it is already an English language program, IELTS is not required. However, countries like Botswana, Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria are exempted from this arrangement. Students from these countries are not required to have TOEFL or IELTS scores. read less
