You can easily learn to play the flute at the beginners level. Many notes and scales can be learned in just a couple of weeks, or even days if you have knowledge about music and ‘Sargam’. However, playing the flute demands great lung power and breath control.
Since strong lung capacity is needed to play the flute, children above 7-8 years can start the beginner’s course. However, it is advisable to pursue the ‘expert’ level after the age of 11-12 years.
Though anyone who has knowledge of the seven notes can learn to play the flute in a couple of weeks, it requires a lot of time, effort and practice to become skilled. The more you practice, the better you are able to play. Famous flute maestros have been practising to play different renditions on the flute for several years and even decades. However, to cover the basics, it takes almost 2-3 years.
A person who plays the flute is called a flautist. One’s earning is based on his skills, fame and ability to perform and engage the audience. Though the prominent flautists may charge between Rs. 3,000- Rs. 10,000 or even more per hour, the salary of an average flautist ranges from Rs. 20,000- Rs 50,000 per month.
