Practice Yoga to defeat Obesity

Out of the many medical conditions which are a result of our stressful lifestyle, obesity is one of the most common and definitely the most harmful one. Obesity is defined as a condition where excess fat gets accumulated and get stored in the body and increases the risk of life-threatening diseases such as heart attack.

Based on the information available on the WHO website, since 1980 the obesity rate has been doubled up. In the year 2008, on a worldwide scale, almost 300 million women and 200 million men were found to be obese. But one thing that people need to understand is that being overweight is different from being obese. To differentiate the two, when you have a body mass index greater than or equal to 25 it counts as being overweight. However, when you have a BMI greater than or equal to 30 it falls under the category obese.

It doesn’t matter under which category you fall, both the situations call for some serious consideration. The best way to get a hold of your condition is by cutting out on things which are harming your body and choose things which will work in the favor of your body. To start with, it is important to make sure that you are following a healthy diet along with some physical exercise. But if you are not a fan of hitting the gym, then you can try the natural alternative i.e. yoga.

How yoga can help you with losing weight?

Yoga is an ancient technique which aims at promoting the holistic living through better lifestyle and improved physical regime and food habits. Since yoga is a natural technique which focuses on controlled breathing via various postures, it is completely harm-free and the perfect alternative for other tiring and harmful techniques. In fact, it doesn’t matter if your BMI is extremely high or you are just trying to stay fit, yoga caters to the needs of all.

Each and every effort you put in for reducing obesity can be improved significantly if you try to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle. Along with practicing yoga, you can accelerate the weight loss efforts by opting for an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Ayurveda is another ancient system of natural medicine which has been around for as long as yoga. When yoga is coupled with Ayurvedic cooking it can really help in shedding those extra pounds while keeping the taste of your taste buds intact.

When you first start with yoga it may seem a little intimidating and daunting. But once you get the hold of it, it is one of the most comfortable ways to get rid of obesity. In the beginning, you may find it difficult to bend into some poses but with daily practice, you will be able to get into the most typical yoga poses with complete ease. It is also important to keep in mind that your body has its own limits and pushing it beyond those limits can cause more harm than benefit.

Be patient

Yoga is a natural and thus a slow process, so do not expect dramatic results in a short span of time. Initially, you may feel that you are not making any progress but with constant practice, you will start feeling more active and alive. Eventually, your body will start reciprocating to the constant stretching and will start getting back to shape. Always remember, a healthy body is home to a calm and receptive mind. It not only makes you look good but also gets back the confidence. Along with that, the health risks associated with obesity are also reduced. So what are you waiting for? Roll out your yoga mat and start the journey of becoming a healthier you.
