Depends on how much time you give in developing the craft of the instrument.

It takes at least three years to sound even decent on the violin and three months to sound good on guitar. Huge difference!

Guitar as it has frets divided. Violin is a bit more complex and it depends a lot on hearing. But after all, it comes to the time you give for your practice.
