What if I put electric guitar strings on an acoustic guitar?

No major difference. You will feel the smoothness of electric strings. Electric guitar strings are smooth and more flexible compared to acoustic guitar strings.

If you use very light-gauge electric strings (. 009 and lower) on an acoustic guitar with larger nut slots for an extended period, the strings will begin to create grooves in the nut slots. While that won't necessarily damage the guitar, you'll run into buzzing and intonation issues.

Music teacher with 6+ years teaching experience beginner friendly

As you've probably seen electric guitar strings are lighter than acoustic guitar strings and produce a thinner sound when compared to acoustic guitar strings. So technically yes you can swap strings of an electric guitar with an acoustic guitar but you would lose a lot of volume and tone.
