Yes Banjo is similar to guitar. But it differs in tuning and sounding. The playing style is different and the sound resonance production is also different. It has a lot of country and gypsy influences . It's played in different styles in different parts of the world

No certainly not , but you can develop the playing technique to some extent similar by trilling . For that you have to be expertise on the instrument .
