The GRE and the GATE are two very different exams. The GRE tests your Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning abilities. It is mandatory to clear the GRE exam if you want to secure an admission for your MS or PhD in some American University. On the other hand, the GATE tests you on your subject knowledge that you studied in your bachelors course (read mostly engineering).
