Generally coachin institutes follow ONE SIZE FITS ALL approach, which is an absolute no-no for GMAT. GMAT is a psychometric test, and identifying one's strengths and weaknesses becomes extremely crucial before beginning any prep which unfortunately institutes don't do.
I completely agree self-prep is enough for GMAT. But when deadlines are close and you are not sure where your preparation is headed or you feel stuck in your prep, I highly recommend getting a coach who works with you individually on your strengths and weaknesses. It costs less than spending randomly and is far more efficient.
Working in the right direction is important than just blindly working hard.
