Addition to the answers by other experts, I would like to explain the following.
One must know why these exists in French. Any accent and special characters in French, for example, accent grave, tréma, accent circonflex: they all are here to regulate the sound of the alphabet which in turn regulates the sound of the word.
The accents, word formation, sentence structure, deciding the vowels, alphabet positioning, word order, etc. are few factors which influence the sound of any language.
Every language has a unique sound to it and every language takes enough effort to make sure the sound of that particular Language isn't tampered. That's how these accents and special marks came into existence.
Hope I have done justice to what I intended to say. Merci beaucoup. «less

Kapil Madhan replied | 23/05/2016

No. French belongs to romanic languages with Latin roots. Spanish and Italian are the sister languages to name a few. Whereas German has germanic origins and is rather similar to Swedish, Norwegian and Dutch.

Both are very different in terms of Grammar structure, phonetics and vocabulary as well.
