You can learn French from any good French teacher, provided he/she teaches you the right accent, apart from the regular grammar. Because, the beauty of French lies in its pronunciation and more than 90% of the French teachers in India don't focus on the pronunciation, and sadly that's one of the reasons the students lose interest in it.

Instead of buying books i would suggest you to watch you tube videos like alphabets, shapes and colors. And there are numerous free videos in you tube posted by many people who teach for beginners. I would suggest you to watch those videos and then read Apprenon le français series of books CBSE which will give better understanding than other books.

Manish replied | 22 Jul

Each language has its value. But when you said you are a science grad, I would suggest to chose a language according to your future plans. If a PG abroad is in your mind, then go for their local language.

Schoolpage replied | 11 Aug

Both languages are derived from Latin and similar for reading ,writing and speaking purpose. If you are planning to continue your further studies in USA, Spanish is what you are looking for!

There aren't any named dialects of French in France but they do have distinguished regional accents. A french from north (from city of Lille for example) may not speak the way a French from south (from city of Marseille for example) speaks.

It's not about how many number of hours you practice. It's about how much effort you put in the pronunciation. You have to keep trying till you perfect it. One good tip will be to watch French movies and try to imitate their pronunciation.
