Firstly one needs to define the reason of learning a foreign language which you have clearly indicated as your wife to learn any foreign language to start the career as a translator. So there are certain things which i would like to put under your kind consideration: Firstly and most importantly becoming a translator in any foreign language it requires to achieve higher level of language proficiency and years of experience. So you need to be really very patient while learning the language without being in rush. Secondly you need to see which are the top most spoken languages i.e. Spanish, French, German, Chinese or Russian etc. and just don't really go for the number of the speakers but also watch for the geographic of the countries as well if they aren't financial strugglers. So learn a language which can offer you the lucrative advantages. My personal opinion is to go for Spanish as it's been awarded world’s most spoken language in the world after English. Best of luck for your future assignments and career path. read less

Hi Partha, The most common job to become a translator is Japanese but it takes atleast 1.5- 2 years to come to an level to become a translator. If you have time than go for Japanese as the competition is low because of its difficulty. But if you dont have so much of time than go for German language. In this case language learning is easy than the previous one but competition is high. Nevertheless within 9 months you can get a translator job in big companies like Amazon, Google, etc. Other languages like Spanish, French, its difficult to get job in the companies because the requirements are not that high. I think you are i have answered your queries! read less
