Step 1: Salutation / Greeting (formal and informal)

Bienvenue! (to greet someone) (Welcome)

Bienvenue à Paris! / en France! (Welcome to Paris / to France.)

Allô (is only used over the phone when you pick up / answering) (Hello)

Coucou ! (informal) Hi !

Salut! (informal) (Hi /Hello!)

Bonjour! (use until 6pm) (Good morning / good afternoon)

Bonsoir! (use after 6pm) (Good evening)

Bonne nuit ! (use when going to sleep / bed) (Good night)

 

Bonjour Monsieur / Messieurs! (Good morning Sir!)

Bonsoir Madame / Mesdames! (Good afternoon Madam!)

Bonsoir Mademoiselle / Mesdemoiselles! (Good evening Miss!)

 

Bonjour (Tulika)! (formal) (Good morning (Tulika)!

Bonjour tout le monde / à tous! (Hello / Good morning everyone!)

 

Salut (Tulika)! (informal) Hi (Tulika)!

Salut tout le monde! / à tous! Hi (everyone)!

 

Q = Question

R = Réponse = Answer

Green color = questions words

Blue color = subject + verb

 

Step 2: Presentations – how to introduce yourself (formal) questions & answers

A: Bonjour monsieur! (Hello / Good morning sir!)

B: Bonjour Madame / mademoiselle! (Good afternoon Madam / miss!)

 

Q: Comment ça va? (informal) How are you?

R: ça va bien, merci, et toi? I'm fine, thanks and you?

 

Q: Comment vas-tu? (informal) How are you?

Q: Comment allez-vous? How are you?

R: Je vais (très) bien, merci, et vous? I’m fine, thanks and you?

R: Pas mal, merci, et vous? Not bad, thanks and you?

R: Comme ci comme ça / couci couça, merci et vous? (So-so, thanks and you?)
