As dance is learnt either as a hobby or an intention only to perform on stage, I feel there is a need to change this attitude as to why it should be learnt. In my view, bharatanatyam inculcates discipline, gives an opportunity to understand our own culture which is fast depleting from our system and lends poise and grace leading to a holistic approach to life itself besides giving us the confidence to face audience and eloquence of speech. If the focus is on learning well, performance and stage is never far.
