"Manjima Ma’am is a good teacher but not easy with questions from parents and too touchy about the feedbacks. We did fine with her till we didnt ask the questions or stated our expectations. We had taken a separate choreography class for a Republic performance, agreed to her class time, fees. She infact gave us half an hour less and very late evening hours that too was just an evening before the performance and even delayed by another hour when we finally showed up. My kid’s performance went well. But this got to her head as if she did something out of scope when she clearly states this in her academy info. Then when my daughter had to miss couple class due to exams, I asked her for the options on how to cover lost lessons. She was so offended and stated something like how I can ask such a thing. In addition, she also said she taught art form to my kid. I had to remind her that I have not asked anything unreasonable and that as a paying customer I keep a right to demand the things like report card and lost class coverage option. I also emphasized how 60 days gap in report card and exam defeats the whole purpose. She could not take any of this. Today she returned the fees I paid and removed my daughter from the group. How arrogant is she? No wonder we never saw anyone continuing with her. For most of the 2 years we worked with her there was just my daughter and another girl in the class. She truly comes across as very unpleasant perosn and frustrated with her life. And honestly her lessons had become stagnated for the past few months. That is probably the reason she didnt like the about the coverage of lost lessons…. because there’s been hardly anything new done. Additionally, just check out her youtube channel. There is hardly any bharatnayam performance. Just all ungainly bollywood performance. In last two we never heard about her performance on an honourable stage. Neither ever we learnt about any of her student performing. So if you are a parent who likes to give feedback to a professional teacher or need to discuss about the growth of your kid in the dance form, you better check out other options. I will recount one more experience, I had once pointed out how there is no place to wait for parents. If we bring our kids, we have to wait out in the element which is difficult and secondly it is very stinky outside which is unbearable. Her straight away reply was I should go find another class for my kid. In this time, when there are Bharatnatyam classes practically around every corner, her attitude is shocking. Good riddance with her! "

I think, for any kid to start dancing, any classical dance training at the initial years would put the kid to be in discipline. As I am a Bharatanatyam exponent, the initial years are very much crucial as well as delicate to construct body alignment, body postures, and geometrical angles. I had trained a couple of my kids who are now grown up & had started when they were five years, & I see a vast difference in them now.
The choice of dance is yours, Anupama Ji. Nevertheless, classical dancing needs a deep touch & nourishment from Gurus that blossoms out to be a graceful dancer in future.

Namsthe Anupama Ji,
I would suggest you go with classical dancing & training because Indian classical dancing certainly touches the student of 5 years old to understand the body alignment, its strength & weaknesses, the geometrical usage of our limbs & body type. I have trained kids of this age group. They need a tender touch, comprehending & patience of the Guru to get hold of "What dancing is?" Why dance as well.
The choice is up to you which one would you choose. Any classical dancing cultivates a firm base to adapt dance as a passion in future.

I believe, effort & endeavour is regardless in any style of dancing. Once you are really serious & committed to putting in your efforts in any style of dancing, it's barely a matter of time & persistent, which will give you the desired outcome.
Apparently, the journey of dancing is what certainly doesn't let you realise how far you have come through. It's an ocean. Any art form, when learnt with the intent of learning & acquiring the deep essence, provides you with the true definition of art or dance.
