Earthing means to connect electrical system to earth or soil in such a manner as it ensures an immediate discharge of electrical energy without any danger. It is the most essential part of electric work which must be provided to protect from any mishap. It saves human life from sudden electric shock. When proper earthing is done in building, it saves building of thunder effects i.e. from fall of natural cloud lighting. read less

Earthing serves serveral purposes. Firstly, any exposed or extraneous conductive parts are connected to 'earth' so that, in the event of a fault, a live cable which touches an earthed metallic object will raise that metallic object to the same potential as the live part. Here in the UK we work with 230V,...

Firstly, any exposed or extraneous conductive parts are connected to 'earth' so that, in the event of a fault, a live cable which touches an earthed metallic object will raise that metallic object to the same potential as the live part. Here in the UK we work with 230V, so a live conductor would be at 230V potential. If a conductor were to touch an earthed metallic object then that object would also be at 230V potential. If there's no potential difference, no current flows hence there is no shock. read less

If the house is not earthed, people could get electrocuted. Without an earth connection, the safety switches will not work and an electrical fault could cause a house or appliances to become ‘live’ as the current flows to earth.
