"REFLECTION" is a phenomenon which we have been experiencing daily. So, it is REAL. For the answer to the question,"How it Occurs', various THEORIES proposed on the nature of LIGHT, namely, 1,Newtons Corpuscular Theory 2. Huygens' Wave Theory. 3. Particle- wave (Dual) theory, and 4. Electromagnetic Theory. I think The postulates of above Theories and their applications are out of the Scope of IX - X class Syllabus. Hence, I ll try to explain it in simple way, as follows. When a ray of light, travelling in a medium, hits a surface OR a boundary, separating that medium from a less denser medium and in a situation where that surface, OR that Boundary does not allow the light ray to travel beyond them, then the light ray REBOUNDS (Reflects) back ( Of course, by obeying certain rules, Called Laws of Reflection). read less
